Welcome to the world of Moviestorm Modding!

What is modding?

Modding is the term used when a user modifies the content within Moviestorm (props, environments, animations, textures, etc.) so that they are able to use their own models, images or animations. At a very basic level, this may include changing the image on a poster so that it displays artwork that the user has created.

Moviestorm is also able to use models created in 3rd party 3D graphics software, such as Autodesk's 3D Studio Max, Google Sketchup, Blender, Milkshape amongst others. This means that if you have a solid background in using 3D tools, you can create your own content for use within Moviestorm.

In this way, you can customise the assets available in Moviestorm to fit your own projects.

 

How do I start?

You can do basic modding within Moviestorm easily, as the first tutorial shows. All you need is access to some photos (which most of us do). If you want to get involved with more in-depth modding (importing your own 3D models into Moviestorm, or changing the costumes, etc.), you'll need to get a Modder's Workshop License so that you can publish your own content from the Modder's Workshop. Basic Modding - Using your own images.

Moviestorm's user interface allows you to change images on some objects, let objects play movies or sounds, as well as the usual options to change their size and colours. In the video below, we'll show you how to get your own images into Moviestorm so that you can use them in your movies.

 

 

Ok, now that you have an idea of the basics, lets move on to creating our own 3D content in Google's Sketchup, and importing it into Moviestorm.

To complete the advanced modding tutorials you will need to download the skeleton files for your chosen 3D package, plus a suitable cal3D exporter.

Moviestorm includes the free Modder's Workshop, which allows you to import models from Google Sketchup or other 3D programs. There's a free tutorial by Andy Price to help you get started.


Get a modder's license

In order to publish your mods and share them with other people - whether you're selling them or giving them away - you'll need a free modder's license from Moviestorm or your mods won't be useable by other people.

The Moviestorm forums include an entire section for modders to discuss and promote their mods. and to share tips and tricks.
